August News

  View Printable Version
Current NewsDuring July, RLR assisted an EMT class with hands on extrication training. I am told that the training went really well with the students talking about it for the rest of the class. I know that the instructor was well pleased as well and we should see some additional opportunities for future events with his future classes.

Heading into this month (august) was interesting. The Nord Stern folks did not disappoint at the National Event. The day started with a 911 doing the rollover maneuver in 2. Had the corner station been rebuilt it would again be gone. The car landed in the same place as the last 2 911's did.

Paul was kept busy with a number of flat tows for the rest of the day (Friday). Saturday it was Brandons turn with most of the tows going to him. Jim did get to run an play somewhat nut for the most part he had the quiet locations to work from (excepting his front row seat to the rollover). Sunday had the Lunacy sprint race and we watched as one of the cars get bucho points for style on a wet front straight. With 6-8 rotations and no wall contact the first time. Unfortunately the second time was not the charm and the car tagged the wall on a second rotation the second time it got loose.

That about summed up the weekend, Ojibwe is the next event on the calendar and as of this writing an still looking for 2-3 crews for the event. please let me know of any options as I can really use the help.

Play safe and enjoy the rest of the summer.

July News and update

  View Printable Version
Current NewsWell this month started out with a new situation that I have not had to deal with in the 14 years prior to starting this operation. Fortunately for Red Light the issue was not with a member of our staff at the event. Unfortunately it was with a person that has worked with us in the past and that has led to the rumor mill kicking into high gear.

The long and short of the scenario is this: ANY PERSON showing up at the track that is suspected of being impaired/compromised and is going to be working track side of the fence will be reported to track staff for assessment and remediation regardless of who has hired them for the day.

June News

  View Printable Version
Current NewsAs we move into June, the SCCA training School has completed and we know who won Indy and the NASCAR races from the weekend. June for Red Light is a light month for the Corner staff. The next 3 events are for Rescue staff with Corners being handled by others.

The BMW event went well with a small number of tows and no major incidents to speak of. The biggest issue was the birth of a fawn on Saturday morning in the infield. This provided a great deal of concern, as between momma and child they had issues with getting across track safely. Then once across we had issues with them re-crossing during the day Saturday and Sunday. All things considered they were still safe and we did get some interesting photos, but there were a few moments the were a little tense.

Enjoy your weekends and see you at the races...

Nord Stern opens Race season at BIR

  View Printable Version
Current NewsThe First Race Group of the season opened the track at BIR for 2010. The event went well for the most part with the Group providing a good smattering of rescue challenges for RLR. With the moisture present on Friday there were a couple of cars that decided to test the structural integrity of the walls on the front stretch. The good news is that the walls are as sound as they have been in the past and the bad news is that the cars fared about as expected. One was driven off and the other was flat towed.

April news

Current NewsHi All,

With the racing season a little more than a week off here is the latest news from the 'home office'. PCA has rehired RLR for the season as has BMW and Slowpokes. I expect that Quattro will also be on board for the season from the conversations that I have had. There is going to be some changes to things this year but not from the RLR activities prospective...

Annual Event Update

  View Printable Version
Current NewsThe annual Social was again this year lightly attended. With the cancels that occurred late in the week a number of guests were unable to complete their weekend plans. Because RLR is organized as an LLC this annual event will continue. State law requires an LLC to hold an (at least) annual shareholder meeting. This is that event. In a couple of weeks you will get updated on coming events. Watch your e-mails and stay safe.

February Update

  View Printable Version
Current NewsI hope that this article finds you warm and snug and out of the snow. I have had more than my far share of that weather and I'd really like to see spring and dry pavement. A couple of things for this month.

First I got a message from our friend Becky (Former North Paramedic) With her new PA title she has found work in a clinic about 40 miles east of Houston TX. I have her e-mail if you are interested in contacting her. I and the rest of us wish her well in the new warmer climate.

Second A reminder that the annual party is scheduled for Saturday 3/20. Please mark your calendars and look this week for details in your email. Stay warm and see you in March.

Updates for December

  View Printable Version
Current NewsFirst: Annual RLR party is scheduled for 3/20/10. Mark your calendars.

Second The Rally Fest Chilli cook-off was 12/5. IT was a really good time at a new venue.

Third: the PDS has posted their dates for the 2010 season and they have been added to the calendar. BUT, I fielded a call today from Gary and the long and short of it is that there is a second rescue company out there that has been selected to handle the BIR-PDS schools for the 2010 season. Both Gary and I feel that this does not close the door on future options, but for now the other company will be handling the school rescue and corner staffing.

Change is inevitable, and sometimes a fresh perspective is a good thing. I wish them well. For now, RLR is still staffing the rest of the events that we have in the past, sans the BIR owned schools. If you want additional info feel free to call me.
