Well I'll start this on a positive note and say Happy New Year to you and yours! I was working so my new year night was in the sleeper of a truck in St. Louis, MO. This message is coming to you from Denver, CO and I'm heading to Butte, MO and then Joliette, IL before I head for the house. So I have a fun week ahead of me. From a humor standpoint the drive over here was interesting as a number of folks decided to start the new year by "racing into" it. I saw a number of cars receiving their "certificates of high speed merit" on both the first and today the second of January. Nothing like that first ticket to start the new year, eh? (not for me)
This morning I got a call from Laurie Eckman. I'll elaborate on that in a second. I just got off the phone with her again a short while ago. This is was not good news...
First, allow me to elaborate briefly on some background info that is critical to the news. (thus the reason to have to "click" more)
Laurie is currently living with her grandparents near Corsicana. Larry has found work in Dallas so he commutes up to Grand Prairie and stays the week with in-laws there. I have been to Lauries Grandparents home and the nearest home is a son of the grandparents and that home is about 1/2 mile away or better. So the grandparents home sits on a rather large parcel of land no-where close to anyone else.
SO, the news I got to day is that between Bear, Sammy, and the two new wolf Pups that Laurie/Larry own and keep in a kennel at her grandparents home, they found that one of the wolf pups had gotten into something. The pup died on the way to the vet. Further examination showed that the pup had found either a mouse or some rat poison and had gotten enough of it that he basically bled out. (that is how rat poison works) So Laurie lost one of her "kids" today.
Well the call I just took, is that after getting home, she took the rest of the "family" in to have them checked as well. They found that ALL of the remaining 3 dogs had gotten a smaller portion of the same stuff. It now looks like someone poisoned them all. Considering the remote location this looks VERY intentional. She has a couple of suspects in mind, but nothing for sure right now.
In short this really sucks. Folks get attached to their pets like a member of the family so this really hurts. I'm sure that Laurie could use some words of encouragement. I know that from the times that I spent visiting both in MN and in TX, the time shared with Bear and Sammy (wolf pups not present the last time I was in TX) that I'm kinda pissed about this and hope they find the person that did this.
If you wish to e-mail Laurie her address is two_wolves a t live dot com. Change the " a t " to the single character needed for e-mail and change the " dot " to a "." (trying to keep her from getting spammed) If you still need help with the address e-mail me and I'll send you the address back.
I am glad that she caught the issue for the other three before any further damage occurred, but a loss is still a loss. I'll Keep you updated with any further info as we hear it on this.
